5 Israeli cannabis researchers we want you to know
Israel is the epicenter of modern cannabis research. With hundreds of studies, from cannabinoids to optimal light solutions for cannabis plants, Israel leads the charge when it comes to increasing our knowledge of cannabis.
Prof. Raphael Mechoulam
Professor Mechoulam is often considered the Father of Cannabis. With over 50 years of cannabis research, we can thank Professor Mechoulam for putting Israel on the cannabis research map. He was the first person to isolate THC and continues to spend time isolating cannabinoids. His research is also used by pharmaceutical companies as he has developed cannabinoids.
Dr. Nirit Bernstein
Dr. Bernstein is the first scientist in Israel to study whole-plant cannabis. She currently is a senior research scientist at the Volcani Center - the Agricultural Research Center and is particularly interested in minor manipulations that affect the entire cannabis plant. She’s published over 70 academic articles and obtained her Ph.D. at the University of California.
Dr. Simon Benita
Dr. Benita heads the Laboratory of Nano Delivery Systems at the Hebrew University’s Center for Cannabinoid Research. His research focuses on improving bioavailability, targeting, and penetration. He also serves on the board of BOL Pharma.
Prof. Doron Steinberg
Professor Steinberg studies biofilms (a thin slimy film of bacteria that adheres to a surface) at the Cannabis Research Center at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His cannabis research focuses on the anti-microbial effects of cannabinoids.
Dr. Dedi Meiri
Dr. Meiri is the principal investigator he Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Cannabinoid Research at the Technion. His lab focuses on phytocannabinoids and the potential anti-tumor effects of cannabis. Further, his research includes cannabinoid effects on epilepsy, the cytoskeleton and even includes quantifying cannabinoids in the cannabis plant (~120).
